In love with the monster

MONSTER'S BRIDE

There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life.

But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor?

They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?"

how to play
  • Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desired role.
  • Reply to others.
  • Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

Rescue rangers

THE DARING RESCUE MEME

HOW DOES IT WORK?
1) Post as your character, listing your ideas and preferences for the scene.
2) The rescuer replies. They can select the scenario, or they can leave it to you to do it.
3) Whoever's doing the picking hits up the RNG to choose the scenario and reason - or just pick your own!
4) Play it out! You can play out the rescue itself if you want, or just the aftermath--or both.

★★ WHO ARE YOU RESCUING THEM FROM?
1] Their greatest enemy. For whatever the reason, the character's greatest enemy has finally made a move and taken them captive. Who knows what they plan to do to the poor character? Good thing you've come to save them.
2] Your greatest enemy. Your own enemy has decided to make a move against you--but not directly. They've taken this character hostage instead. Show them who's boss and rescue the victim!
3] Natural disaster. Come hell or high water, you'll save the character...and, in fact, it has come hell (in the form of fire, maybe) or high water (perhaps a flood?). Or something like that. Whatever. The point is, nature itself has it out for the character, and it's up to you to save them.
4] Wild animals. Stephen Colbert was right: bears are the number one threat. Or maybe lions. Make sure the character doesn't become dinner.
5] Supernatural forces. Actually, it's dragons. Or evil wizards. Or demons. Take your pick, just so long as you rescue the character from them.
6] Pirates. Just what the pirates intend to do with this character might be a mystery--could be they'll walk the plank, or worse. Time to pluck them from the hook-hands of danger.

★★★ WHY ARE YOU RESCUING THEM?
1] Love. The fairy tales have it right. It's true love that spurs the knight to rescue his fair maiden...or vice versa.
2] Friendship. It's not always about kisses and ravishing, you know. Sometimes, you've just gotta look out for friends and family, no matter what sticky situations they get themselves into.
3] Rivalry. Only you're allowed to dish it out to the character! Better make sure no one else gets in your way.
4] Debt. The character owes you, in one way or another. They don't think they can get off easy, do they?
5] Money. Plain and simple: you were hired for the task. It's nothing personal, just business.

PRIDE MEME

1. Exactly what it says on the tin. Post with your character and have them say what they're most proud of! It could range from simple things from their appearance or a hidden talent, to their greatest achievements and their goals!
2. Don't leave your top-levels blank! I will delete them.
3. Respond! Challenge them, congratulate them, roast them, whatever!

Arranged to be yours

THE ARRANGED MARRIAGE MEME

How to Play
I. Leave a comment with your character's name, canon, and any preferences you might have. You can also write a prompt to set the scene if you wish.
II. When replying, roll for a scenario, come up with your own, or respond to what the other person has already come up with.
III. Tag around and have fun!

Prompts
I. Matchmaker, Matchmaker - You're a commoner, and the matchmaker - whether it be your parents or an actual village matchmaker - has had their say. It's time to meet your spouse-to-be.
II. Do Your Duty - This isn't a normal arranged marriage because your station calls for it. There's some purpose behind it: A political alliance, perhaps, or something else. You don't have much choice but to go through with it, so you might as well meet the other person.
III. Getting to Know You - So the engagement is official, and you've met the other person, but you still don't know them very well. Maybe you've decided to take them out, or maybe it's a chaperoned meeting. But it's good to spend time with someone you'll be spending the rest of your life with, right?
IV. Breaking it Off - Before your engagement, you were with someone else. You're still with someone else, but it's time to change that. Like it or not, you're going to have to break up with your significant other. In this prompt, you're interacting not with your potential bride or groom, but with someone else.
V. Runaway - That's it. You can't take this. There's no way you're going to go through with this - it's just not for you. You're all set to flee.
VI. One Last Chance - You're all set up for an arranged marriage, but you've got lingering regrets. Maybe there's an old flame you're just not willing to let go of yet. In this prompt, you're interacting not with your potential bride or groom, but with someone else.
VII. The Big Day - Do you hear the wedding bells ringing? Everyone else does. It's time to walk down the aisle and make this official.
VIII. Happily Ever After - Surprisingly, the arranged marriage worked out rather well. Live out your days in wedded bliss and laugh about the fact that you would have chosen each other even if someone else hadn't chosen for you.
IX. Not-So-Happy Ending - Yeah, no. This marriage just isn't working, but you can't break it off. There's no wedded bliss here - just conflict. But you can put up with it. Can't you?
X. Wild Card - The "other" option! Use your imagination and come up with something!

the interview meme

— the interview meme.

The camera's on, the mics are rolling, and all eyes are on you. Your characters are now interviewing each other for an audience — seen or unseen, in all kinds of contexts. Is this for a show that might be viewed by thousands of people, or a private affair only meant for one or two to see? Is your character a charismatic and gregarious celebrity, or some other subject of interest? Or are they the interviewer, in any number of flavors: warm and empathetic, flippant and lackadaisical, cold and professional... with incisive questions that will push and pull and prod in all sorts of directions?

Toplevel with your characters and preferences (interviewer, interviewee, or either role), then get the ball rolling with any of the optional prompts below.

This meme has been written for gen interactions, but it can be as shippy as you want. Most interviews will be purely professional... but there's no tearing your eyes away from two people who have palpable chemistry while talking to each other, whether they're performing for an audience or not.

History will call us wives

Companion to Royalty Meme

There's one truth you must know of royalty: though power may lay in their hands, the crown is a cage. Whether you've always been noble, came into this position recently by complete surprise, or a simple person caught in the fray, you're realizing that leaders actually lead very little - even down to choosing who they spend their most intimate moments with. From eternal bonds of matrimonies to the distractions provided by courtesans, the people behind the throne make the rules. They cannot risk losing control of their most elevated and strategically placed pawn with a match gone wrong, which could create a domino effect and doom possibly thousands.

So, what part do you play in this game?

roll to seduce

Dungeons and Dragons!
A game as old as time... Dungeons and Dragons! Fueled by dice, pizza, and the limitless powers of your imagination, D&D has the ability to transform an ordinary basement into a extravagant tavern filled with orcs, elves, and warlocks. There are plenty of guides out there that teach you the right way to play, but this is just a meme, so it's fine if you feel like flubbing some of the rules. I won't tell.

how to play;
  • Leave a top-level for your character, including info and preferences. It might help to add whether your character plans on DMing, or just playing as a character in someone else's campaign.
  • Tag out, have fun, kill monsters.

I Been Workin' on the Railroad...

THE ON-DUTY MEME

We're all used to playing our characters in special circumstances--sharing a bath, AUed into a robot, in the rain, lost in the ball pit (well that's one way to get your extra hour)...but how often do we get to actually play our characters doing their day jobs?

This meme is for just that.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Write a starter about your character going about their day/night at work, wherever that may be.

If your character is a doctor, write them checking in on a patient, or having a meal in the hospital cafeteria. If they're a lawyer, write them at court. If they're a professional ghost-hunter? Yeah, that'd be a pretty neat starter too!

Be sure to include some sort of hook that allows other characters to join in the action, even if your character works alone. Maybe they brought their pile of research out to a cafe? Maybe they need help with something?

2. Respond to other characters' starters.

3. Thread. Have a good day at work, or perhaps an awful day at work.

Cabin in the woods

🍂 Cabin in the Woods 🎃

A night in the woods, a staple of any idyllic autumn! You don't have service out here, so there's no need to worry about pesky things like phone calls or text messages. Don't worry about noise pollution, either; there's not single soul around. You're so far out of the way, in fact, that no one can hear you scream! Isn't that fun?

how to play;
  • Comment with your character and whether you prefer things be sweet or scary.
  • Reply to others.
  • Enjoy your time at the cabin in the woods!

● Post with your character's name and canon on the subject line, indicate preferences as needed
● Tag others

Word Association - March

Word Association is a common word game involving an exchange of words that are associated together. The game is based on the noun phrase word association, meaning "stimulation of an associative pattern by a word" or "the connection and production of other words in response to a given word, done spontaneously as a game, creative technique, or in a psychiatric evaluation."
~ our lord and saviour wikipedia

GUIDELINES
① post with your character's name & series.
② include a word of your choice and optionally the definition in the body of your comment.
-- visit the random word generator if you need help!
③ other characters will reply with the first word their character associates with the one you chose.
④ continue back and forth until one of you just has to know the story behind an answer.
